Before starting the design program, Sandhya got her Bachelor's Degree in Biology (Pre-Medicine) and worked as a Translational Research Assistant at the Center for Injury Research Policy of The Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital. In this position, she helped "translate" injury research into educational materials such as fact sheets and informational videos, as well as promotional materials including press releases and social media posts.
While working in this position, she gained insight into the power that visual communication could have on public health. She realized that with the right tools and a strong foundation in design, she could help disseminate relevant information and have more of an impact than by becoming a health educator or a research scientist.
